Free Education At Any Age, From Anywhere

I was lucky enough to have a wonderful, all-round, education.  In fact, my parents worked hard and sacrificed other things so that I could go to a school where the students were encouraged to ask “Why?”, learn musical instruments, play sports and gain insights into the world of the military.  Subsequently, I am forever grateful and yet I still believe there’s always more to learn. Now, you can get free education, at any age, from anywhere.  How?  By getting online.

Is Education In A Stuck State?

One of my friends in Asia told me last week that the education system in her country has not changed for the last 40 years.  40 years!  And she wasn’t just referring to the structure of the system, she mentioned that if you attended teacher training in 1980 you received the same manual as you receive today.  WOW!  Time for the people to take learning into their own hands?

We’ve Allowed Education To Dictate Our Confidence

As I travel around, I’m so aware that most people were not fortunate enough to have the kind of education I did.  I meet people who feel insecure about their academic knowledge, or their language skills, or their ability to converse with different types of people.  And then I meet others who did not really engage well with the format and structure of the school environment and just stopped paying attention.  Now, even the idea of learning anything new terrifies them.

The Internet Brings Information To Life

Free Education Any Age AnywhereDoes it really matter what happened in the past?  Not really, because there is always more to learn, whatever educational foundation we spring from.  Today we can learn anything, anywhere and often we don’t even have to pay for it.  We exist in the age of information at our fingertips and over the internet, we can learn pretty much anything, no matter how old we are.

In fact, the more we continue to learn new things as we get older, the more we keep our minds active and healthy, and the longer we can enjoy this world. More and more people are donating their time to make “how-to” videos and there are a million pages out there with advice about what to eat, our health, alternative approaches to just about anything and ideas to inspire new ways of thinking.  Actually, the more I learn, I realise the less I know, which encourages me to keep learning and considering different perspectives.

Therefore, if you want to support your children with their homework, learn how your body works, find out about the universe or have something a more interesting than Donald Trump to discuss, it’s time to learn something new.  Accordingly, take 30 minutes out of every day and change the way you use the internet.  You can learn anything you like, at any age and from anywhere.

Free Education Websites Online

So, at any age, you can get a free education anywhere.

Here are 5 sites that will teach you about a whole host of subjects – FREE.  They’re visually stimulating and some even have tests to help you monitor your progress.

  1.  Khan Academy – Offers free online education in a wide range of academic subjects from mathematics to medicine.
  2. How Stuff Works Science – A wealth of information about all things scientific.
  3. My Own Business Institute – Useful information if you’re thinking about setting up in business or you new to a management position.
  4. Watchknowlearn – This site covers a wide range of subjects and the link sends you to HISTORY – we always forget that history repeats itself until it’s too late!
  5. Youtube.com – The biggest free library of “how-to” videos – this link goes to how to make a fire without a match … just in case you don’t know.

Empower yourself with new information, and then work out what you think about what you’ve just learned.  It’s much more interesting to talk to people about ideas, concepts and thoughts than it is to make assumptions about what we read about strangers in the news. Isn’t it? Learn more, do more, be more.
