To Get The Best Out Of NLP Coaching And Training You Have To Own Everything!
In the journey of personal development and growth, we must embrace a fundamental truth: we are the architects of our reality. Mine is different to yours and yours is different to the next person. This realisation forms the cornerstone of self-leadership, a concept deeply intertwined with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Time Line Therapy® coaching. Quite simply, to get the best out of coaching and training you have to OWN everything!
By understanding and harnessing the principles of self-leadership, we can unlock our fullest potential, shaping our lives with purpose, intention, and enjoyment.
What does it mean to EMBRACE Self-Leadership?
At its core, self-leadership is the ability to take charge of our thoughts, emotions, and actions, steering them towards our desired outcomes. It’s about recognising that we hold the power to shape our inner and outer realities and that every thought we entertain, every emotion we feel, contributes to the narrative of our lives.
Life doesn’t happen to us. We co-create it with our reactions, thoughts, emotions and projections.
Ground Rule 1: Empowering Your Inner Narrative
The stories we tell ourselves, and the beliefs we hold, all play a pivotal role in shaping our reality. When we acknowledge that we create our thoughts and emotions, we reclaim agency over our lives. Instead of being passive bystanders, we become active participants, and co-authors of our destiny.
Energy Thieves Be Gone!
Consider the term “energy thief” for a moment. You know, the label we give to another person when we go out with them and imagine that they’re stealing our positive energy and then we feel drained when we go home.
Is that really what happens? Can we consider this scenario differently? Could it be that you didn’t want to go out on that particular night because you wanted to go home and curl up with a good book? Instead of speaking your truth, you go along with the plan and from the point that you decide you’re going out you feel resistant.Â
As the time to go draws nearer, your resistance creates continuous movies in your mind about how you won’t enjoy yourself, how tiring this person is and how you’re doing them a favour by seeing them. Ha! Aren’t we funny? Then you sit there in front of them with a fake smile plastered across your face. All the while inside you’re thinking “I don’t want to be here, I just want to go home, why did I come, I am not enjoying this.” Mmmmm. Who’s draining energy in this scenario? Who is the energy thief here? That’s right – it’s you. Oops!
We Are What We Project
This example is a great reminder that we cannot be impacted by others when we take care of ourselves and have awareness about our own thought patterns. Of course, it’s easier to blame others for what happens and how we feel about it. However, when we can shift perspectives and see life as a perfect reflection of what’s going on inside ourselves, we learn to use it as a tool and take ownership of our thoughts and feelings.Â
Taking this leap forces us to OWN our nonsense. And when we OWN it – we can do something about it. We empower ourselves with choice.Â
What Else Can You Do?
Embrace the power of positive affirmations, visualisation, and reframing techniques to rewrite the narrative of your life.
Practise daily affirmations: Start your day by affirming your strengths, goals, and dreams. Affirmations like “I am capable,” “I ATTRACT and DESERVE success,” and “I CREATE the life of my dreams” can help rewire your unconscious mind for success.
Engage in visualisation exercises: Take a few moments each day to visualize your desired outcomes with vivid detail. Imagine yourself achieving your goals, feeling the emotions associated with success, and living your best life.
Reframe limiting beliefs: Challenge negative self-talk and limiting beliefs by reframing them into empowering statements. Instead of saying “I can’t,” ask “What is actually stopping me?” By reframing your thoughts, you shift your perspective and open yourself up to new possibilities.
Ground Rule 2: Taking Ownership of Your Life
One of the most empowering realisations on the journey of self-leadership is understanding that we are far more impactful on our life experience than any external factor.Â
While external circumstances may influence us, it is our response to those circumstances that ultimately shapes our reality.Â
By taking ownership of our thoughts, emotions, and actions, we reclaim control over our lives.
Accept responsibility: Stop playing the blame game and take ownership of your choices and actions. Acknowledge that you have the power to choose how you respond to any situation, regardless of external factors.
Focus on what you can control: Stop dwelling on things beyond your control, events you can’t change from the past, or events imagined in the future going wrong. Instead, focus your energy on the aspects of your life that you can influence. Channel your efforts towards meaningful goals and pursuits that align with your values and aspirations.
Cultivate resilience: Develop resilience in the face of challenges by reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth. Embrace failure as a stepping stone towards success, and let adversity fuel your determination to persevere. After all, everyone needs something to push against, don’t you?
Ground Rule 3: Harnessing the Power of Emotions
Our emotions are not obstacles to be overcome but valuable indicators guiding us towards our true desires. Learning how to use our emotions as a compass allows us to navigate life with clarity, purpose, and authenticity.
By accepting and embracing all of our emotions, we can harness their energy to create the reality we want to live in.
Practise emotional awareness: Cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness to recognize and understand your emotions as they arise.
Pay attention to how different emotions manifest in your body and mind, and acknowledge them without judgement.
Redirect negative emotions: Instead of being controlled by your emotions, learn to redirect their energy towards positive outcomes.
When faced with fear, doubt, or frustration, ask yourself what lessons you can learn from these emotions and how you can use them to propel yourself forward. A leap of faith is often the best option!
Embrace the present moment: While it’s important to visualise a positive and purposeful future, don’t forget to fully embrace the present moment.
Life is happening here and now, and by fully immersing yourself in the present, you can experience joy, gratitude, and fulfilment.
